CoCo-80X: Featuring CAN bus

CAN bus: Reliable and Modularized Communication System
CAN bus is a serial bus protocol that was initially designed for the automotive industry by Robert Bosch GmbH. It is a highly modularized communication system that provides reliable data transmission between multiple CAN nodes. CAN bus was designed to eliminate errors through its built-in error-checking and its implementation of differential voltages to represent logic states. All modules are connected to one central line, which greatly simplifies the control system. If one module on the CAN bus fails, it doesn’t necessarily cause the other modules to fail. The healthy modules will continue to function perfectly despite the loss of one bad module. This has also allowed for a high degree of reliability and resilience to error. Data messages are broadcasted to all nodes on the bus, allowing any given node to communicate with any other node. This system was designed for transmitting small amounts of data between multiple nodes.

Simultaneous GPS, CAN, and Vibration Data Acquisition
The CoCo-80X is the perfect solution to a wide variety of data acquisition applications. This portable dynamic signal analyzer provides all of the functionality and accuracy of a lab-quality signal analyzer, and incorporates these features into a lightweight, battery-powered device. The CoCo-80X has been equipped with GPS and CAN bus hardware, allowing users to simultaneously record CAN data, GPS data, and vibration data. Users can display live CAN data or configure the CoCo-80X to record all data through the OBD-II connector. The OBD-II port separates the CAN interface from the input channel interface, allowing users to acquire signals from both interfaces simultaneously. Powerful post-analysis tools allow users to view vibration data in parallel with CAN data and GPS data.

Applications for Automotive and Industry
The CoCo-80X is a rugged, lightweight, battery powered handheld system with unparalleled performance and accuracy. It is a powerful diagnostic and analysis tool designed for the automotive applications. The CAN bus interface allows for simultaneous 8-channel recording at the highest sampling rates, while also recording GPS and CAN bus data. The intuitive user interface is specifically designed for easy operation while still providing a wide variety of analysis functions.

CoCo-80X Features CAN bus Interface

CAN bus is often found in use on production lines in manufacturing environments, allowing operators and equipment to effectively communicate at each step of the assembly process. The CoCo-80X provides users a portable solution for communicating with a system’s CAN interface. It also serves as a powerful diagnostic tool for continuous data acquisition and machine condition monitoring, making it an ideal tool for industrial applications.

Standard OBD-II Protocol Conformance
The (ISO 11898-1&2) CAN bus digital input allows simultaneous measurement of an automobile’s speed, engine RPM and/or any of the hundreds of performance variables tracked by its Controlled Area Network (CAN). The CAN interface communicates with the vehicle’s electronic devices, sensors, and systems.

CAN bus on the CoCo-80X conforms with ISO 11898-1 (Bosch CAN protocol 2.0 part A, B), which specifies the data link layer (DLL) and physical signaling of the controller area network. It describes the general architecture of CAN by providing the characteristics for setting up an interchange of digital information between modules implementing the CAN DLL. It uses a 4-pin LEMO connector to secure on the CoCo-80X end. The transmission bit rate is up to 1 Mbps.
