(Santa Clara, Calif. – June 10, 2015) – Nano-satellite developer Aquila Space has formed a strategic partnership with Crystal Instruments and Sentek Dynamics to test a prototype of its three-spectral-band imager, the primary payload of a 6U CubeSat scheduled to launch at the end of 2015.
The imager, comprised of three cameras which capture pictures of the earth from space, was subjected to vibration tests including a Resonance Survey, Sine Sweep, and Random Vibration affixed to Sentek Dynamics' 50 kN shaker controlled by Crystal Instruments’ Spider-80X Vibration Test Controller.
The prototype qualification tests served to simulate the launch vehicle environment where the Sentek shaker vibrated the test object in all three axes. After the simulations the remote sensing technology was checked for damage.
Sentek Dynamics provides vibration test systems in full range from 1 kN to 400 kN which are scalable for various applications in aerospace testing. “We strive to provide vibration test expertise, including consulting, support, and education on test practices, to companies both new and experienced in the field of vibration testing,” said Samuel Hage, Sentek Dynamics Director of Sales.
Sentek’s shakers pair harmoniously with Crystal Instruments controllers. “Crystal Instrumentsvibration test controllers are easy to use,” said Aquila Space Director of Programs Michael Bertino, who planned the tests. “The controllers can be adjusted with numerous profiles and many channels to match exactly to the desired test levels. The associated software generates a wide range of data which leads to a better understanding of results.”
“The mission of Aquila Space’s nano-satellites is to produce daily images of all arable land at a resolution similar to larger satellites but with much smaller and less expensive technology,” said Chris Biddy, Aquila Space Founder and CEO. Among other applications, the Aquila Space Landmapper Constellation of satellites will produce data supporting applications for water management, crop health, and change detection at a daily refresh rate.
